Key Strategies of Work/Life/Study Balance in College

Today’s average college student have a lot of stressors and demands on their shoulders. Not only must he or she keep up with their studies, but it is often the case that these students also have other obligations to take care of as well. Fortune.com notes that approximately 43% of full-time students and 81% of part-time students also work while they are in college according to estimates.

With this much going on at the same time, it is critical for college students to know a few ways that they can balance their work, social, and study lives to keep from getting burned out.

1) Create a Detailed Schedule

One of the best ways to keep yourself on track is to live by a schedule. When your time is scheduled and your life is disciplined, you will be surprised by how much you can get done. If you try to accomplish everything without a firm plan, things can get out of control.

You can choose a particular day of the week that is less busy for you to create your weekly schedule. Write it all out and make certain that you have the time to finish everything that you want to finish. Then, stick to the schedule. It helps you get more done and avoid the temptation to slack off or get too distracted.

2) Set Aside Time for School-Specific Activities

College students need to make a concentrated effort to set aside time for their studies. This should be a priority as it is the whole reason why they are in school in the first place. Set aside time for things such as:

• Taking Care of Papers – Depending on your chosen course of study, you might have a lot of writing to do. It is critically important to take the time to get those papers done properly.

• Studying for Tests – The tests that are assigned throughout the semester are another major component of college courses. If you are not studying for those tests ahead of time, you might not be properly prepared. Make sure you always provide yourself with plenty of time to study ahead for tests.

• Studying with Friends – Learning together is an excellent way to tackle challenging material in college. If you want to study with friends, then you need to set aside time to do so. It is best to prepare for this and to set aside a time when everyone can get together to work on this singular mission.

Always make sure you keep school-specific activities at the forefront of everything that you do while in college. Afterall, that is the entire reason why you are there in the first place.

3) Schedule a Limited Amount of Paid Work

Your job is not your priority while in college, but it might be a necessity for you anyway. Life is expensive, and it is not always easy to handle all of the expenses that college life throws at you if you don’t work at least some. That said, you should only schedule yourself for a limited

number of hours each week because you could throw off your studies if you try to work too much. Just make certain that you are striking a balance that works for you.

4) Ask for Help if You Need It

Finally, don’t forget that you can (and should!) ask for help if you need it. There are resources that are available to you! It is ideal to snap them up whenever you feel yourself struggling. Don’t worry about what other people might think of you. This is your journey to get through, and it takes a lot of strength to ask for help. Believe it or not, there are plenty of others who are going through the same struggles that you are. It’s possible to lean on them to get strength when you are trying to make it through college life.

College can be an exciting time, but also brings about a lot of things to stress about. Don’t let insurance be one of them. Whether it be for your car, health, or renter’s insurance, contact a local independent Northeast Nebraska Insurance agent to get the right coverage for you, no matter what stage of life you’re in.
